Length: Place the end of a measuring tape beside the collar at the top of the piece (high point shoulder). Pull the tape to the bottom of the piece.
Flat chest width: Place the end of a measuring tape at one side of the chest area and pull the tape across to the other side of the piece.

On course and off course

On the course: A crewneck over a polo is fine at many courses; check the dress code first.

Off the course: A relaxed crew for the clubhouse and the weekend.
