How should a golf cap fit?
Illustrative imageThe short answer: A golf cap fits when it sits level about half an inch above your ears and eyebrows, stays put through a full swing without leaving a line on your forehead, and the brim shades your eyes without dropping into view.
A cap that is too tight is a headache by the back nine; too loose and it lifts in the wind. A minute with a tape measure saves both, especially with a fitted cap that has no strap to adjust.
Measure your head#
Wrap a soft tape measure around your head about half an inch above your ears and eyebrows, where a cap sits. Compare that number with the size chart on the product page. The Ninth Cap is fitted, with a closed back and stretch band, in two sizes: S/M and L/XL.
Signs of a good fit#
It sits level rather than perched on top, with no gap at the back. After a few practice swings it has not moved. After an hour there is no red line across your forehead. The brim shades your eyes without dropping into your view of the ball.
Between sizes#
Choose the larger size: a slightly roomy cap is more comfortable over a full round than one that pinches, and the stretch band keeps it close.
Shape and profile#
A structured, mid-profile crown like the Ninth Cap's holds its shape and sits at a middle height on the head. For the difference between structured and soft crowns, see structured vs unstructured golf caps, or browse golf caps and beanies.
Questions#
How do I know my golf cap size?
Measure around your head about half an inch above your ears and eyebrows and compare with the size chart.
Should a golf cap be tight?
Snug, not tight. It should stay put through a swing without leaving a line on your forehead.
