What to wear to watch the Masters (or any golf tournament)
Illustrative imageWatching golf in person means a long day on your feet, often starting on a cool spring morning and finishing in the afternoon sun. Dress like you are about to play a casual round and you will fit right in.
Start with your shoes#
You will walk several miles over grass and slopes. Broken-in, comfortable shoes matter more than anything else you wear. Golf shoes or clean trainers both work; avoid anything new.
A collar and neutral trousers#
A polo with trousers, chinos or tailored shorts is the standard spectator outfit at most tournaments. It looks right in the galleries, in the hospitality areas and at dinner afterward.
Layer for the morning#
Spring tournaments can start cold. A half-zip or light anorak over your polo covers the early holes and packs away when it warms up. A cap is useful all day.
Check what you can bring#
Tournaments publish their own rules on bags, chairs and phones, and some are strict: the Masters, for example, does not allow mobile phones on the grounds. Read the event's guest policy before you go.
