What to wear golfing between 45 and 65°F
Illustrative imageCool rounds are some of the best of the year, if you dress for them. The trick is to plan for the temperature at the turn, not the one on the first tee, and to carry layers you can actually take off.
60 to 65°F#
A polo is usually enough once you are moving. Keep a half-zip in the bag for a breeze or a shady stretch.
52 to 60°F#
Start in a polo with a half-zip over it. Most golfers take the layer off around the turn as the day warms and they have been walking for an hour.
45 to 52°F#
Wear a long-sleeve base or a polo under a heavier mid layer such as a fleece half-zip or hoodie, and add a toque for the first few holes. Warm hands matter more than anything for feel; keep a pair of winter golf gloves or hand warmers in the bag.
Wind and damp#
Wind makes any temperature feel colder, and damp air makes cotton feel cooler. On a breezy or misty day, dress as if it is about 5°F colder than the forecast.
